2005 Pingyao International Photography Festival
The 2005 Pingyao International Photography Festival was held in Pingyao, Shanxi, China on September 16-22, 2005. On the 60th anniversary of the victory of China's Resistance War Against Japanese Aggression and the victory of the world war against fascists, the theme “Peace & Progress” of this edition resonated well with photographers from all over the world. Valuable images of China's resistance war against Japanese aggression and the world war against fascists attracted viewers’ attention. 11,370 images by 506 photographers from 29 countries and regions, the highest number since the inception of the PIP, were exhibited. And the 2005 PIP received viewers of 130,000 person-times. 76 photo trade deals had been reached between photographers and photo agencies. Pingyao International Photography Museum installed statues for Robert Capa (USA) and Long Chin-San (Taiwan, China), exhibited and housed their works. Besides previous four years’ activities, the PIP specially launched and organized teachers and students from 26 international colleges of photography including American New York Institute of Photography to showcase their works, so that teachers and students from domestic and foreign universities could exchange and learn one another on the platform of the PIP. In addition, DV exhibition was added for the first time to attract a wider audience. The Organizing Committee of the PIP respectively held press conferences in the Headquarters of European Union, Belgium and India, increasingly drawing the attention of a great many photographic organizations and photographers, such as Magnum Photo Agency, Belgian Photographers' Association and Greek Photographers' Association. And the President of the UNSRC Photographic Society also arrived in Pingyao and attended activities. Based on a great success, the year of 2005 was the most important year in the development of the PIP, and it would create a new milestone.
