2014第14届中国平遥国际摄影大展
 
    2014第14届中国平遥国际摄影大展以“影像生活  梦想世界”为主题,秉承着“对话·交流”这一宗旨,在开放与宽容的前提下,国内外摄影人在平遥大展中进行文化与学术的广泛交流。
2014第14届中国平遥国际摄影大展共分为五大板块、十九个单元,共有来自32个国家和地区的2100余位摄影师参加大展,展出作品20000幅
    本届大展的参展作品以高水准的呈现受到国内外广大摄影人、批评家的好评。在国际展方面,大展邀请了十位国际摄影节主席、知名策展人为大展策展,在展出各国地域特色的同时,大幅提升了本届大展的国际化、专业化水准。尤其是“北欧波罗的海八国展”,以其丰富的摄影类型,横贯东西世界的历史文化背景,成为本届大展最受好评的展览之一;秘鲁女摄影师塞西莉亚·帕里茨的作品《背景故事》也以其独特的形式展示了融入不同文化的努力与不易。这些内容丰富、视觉语言多元的摄影作品所呈现出的“对话·交流”这一年度宗旨的对应以及对“摄影当代性”的探讨,秉承着十三年来中国平遥国际摄影大展的坚持。
    国内展方面,大展继续邀请多位国内优秀策展人对展览进行整体策划,引入新鲜的策展人血液,加强策展人与摄影师之间的交流,使得专业摄影师与摄影爱好者都能在大展中找到自己的位置。
    2014大展继续延续并完善评审委员会制度,本届大展的评委组成在深度和广度上都有所提升,并在总结往年评审经验的基础上,评审工作流程更加的规范化、制度化,保证了大展评审工作的公正与公平。
    本届大展也迎来了院校展十年,十年期间,院校展共有参展学生人数4500人,参展作品18000余幅。院校展作为国际文化交流的平台,每年吸引来自国内外的几十所院校参展,被策展人和教授们评为“最具活力的展览部分”。作为世界上唯一的大规模院校摄影展,院校展也吸引了大批国际院校。美国教授苏珊·都利专门为摄影节策划全美院校摄影竞赛展“冲破界限”,迄今已历五届;2014年英国教授希恩·博奈尔专门为平遥策展英国院校展,有英国12所著名院校的学生参展。另外还有许多院校直接派教师和学生参展,如:纽约帕森设计艺术学院、澳大利亚国立大学、芝加哥哥伦比亚学院、华盛顿大学、墨尔本皇家理工学院、南澳大学、南洋理工大学、ICP摄影学院。
    2014第14届中国平遥国际摄影大展首次打造“众·对话”平台,邀请国内外策展人在平遥展开对话,经过多年的努力,平遥大展不仅仅是国内外摄影人交流的平台,也逐渐成为国际摄影人之间互相交流的重要场所。本届大展期间,大展邀请来自世界各地的摄影师举办“众·对话”两场,深受摄影人关注,内容涵盖策展理论与技巧以及摄影教育等。举办“九月公开课”6堂,包括钟建明、希恩·博奈尔、詹姆斯·雷默、塞西莉亚·帕里茨、侯军、葛兰娜·詹宁斯内的6位国际知名摄影师、摄影教育家参与授课,共有1500人次在平遥接受摄影公开课教育。举办摄影讲座3个,内容涵盖摄影理论、摄影技巧、摄影作品编辑等诸多内容;高端摄影论坛3个,并邀请42位摄影师、艺术家、策展人现场讲解24场。举办幻影之夜3次,共有来自不同机构与个人的7个幻灯片播放,总时长约6小时。
    本届大展共有130多家媒体的近300名记者对大展进行报道,其中网络媒体70多家,传统媒体60多家。包括新浪、网易、山西晚报、中国摄影报、人民摄影报等媒体在大展期间进行了专题报道。同时,艺委会通过官网、微博、微信等方式对大展进行宣传,及时、完整、有效的报道方式,深受参展者的好评。
    2014第14届中国平遥国际摄影大展已经落下帷幕,我们坚信,在各级领导、媒体及全世界摄影师、艺术家的共同努力之下,中国平遥国际摄影大展这个最具国际影响力的全球摄影人的奥斯卡,必将拥有一个更加美好的未来。
 
   With the theme “Life of Photography, World of Dream” and the aim of “Dialogue and Exchange,” the 14th China Pingyao International Photography Festival (PIP) has provided an opportunity for domestic and foreign photographers to widely have cultural and academic exchanges under the premise of openness and tolerance.
In 2014, exhibitions at the festival were divided into 5 major parts and 19 units. There would be 20,000 images shot by more than 2,100 photographers from 32 countries and districts. 
    Photographers and critics in China and abroad have highly praised the quality of the works at the festival. For the international exhibitions, 10 directors of international photography festivals and famous curators were invited to curate work, which not only showed the regional features of various countries but also greatly promoted the level of internationalization and professionalization for the PIP festival. In especial, “Viewfinders: Contemporary Baltic and Nordic Photography” was one of the best-reviewed exhibitions by virtue of its various genres of photography and its background of eastern and western history and cultures. Peru female photographer Cecilia Paredes’s work “Background Stories” revealed the efforts and arduousness of slipping into different cultures in a distinctive form. Various photographic works have corresponded to the aim of “Dialogue and Exchange,” and probed into “contemporary photography,” in accordance with 13-year adherence of the PIP festival to its goal.
    For the domestic exhibitions, the PIP festival continued to invite many outstanding Chinese curators to curate work, to bring new blood into the curators, and to enhance exchanges between curators and photographers, which could help professional and amateur photographers to find the right niche for themselves at the festival.
In 2014, the PIP festival would continue to improve its jury committee system. As the depth and width of judging panel was further enhanced, the judging process, based on past experience, would be more standardized and systematic to ensure the equity and justice.
    The university exhibition has been held for ten years. There was a total of more than 18,000 images by 4,500 students from colleges and universities. As a platform of internationally cultural exchanges, dozens of domestic and foreign universities are attracted to participate in this exhibition each year which has been named “the most dynamic part of exhibition” by curators and professors. It is the only large-scale photo exhibition of college students in the world that has attracted a lot of attention from international universities. Susan Dooley, an American professor, has curated student work from the US at the PIP festival in previous five years, including “Breaking Boundaries V,” an exhibition of student portfolios from the United States. In 2014, British Dr. Sian Bonnell has specially curated student work from twelve famous colleges of the UK at the PIP festival. In addition, many teachers and students of colleges and universities directly participating in this exhibition included: Parsons?The New School for Design, Australia National University, Columbia College, Chicago, University of Washington, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, University of South Australia, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and International?Center?of?Photography?School.
    While the activity of “Public & Dialogue” debuted at the 14th PIP festival, domestic and foreign curators were invited to dialogue on this platform in Pingyao. After years of effort, the festival has not only provided a platform for photographers in China and abroad to communicate with each other, but also gradually become an important place of exchanges between photographers from all over the world. At the festival, photographers around the world were invited to hold the activity which could range from curatorial theory and skill to photography education with the attention paid by photographers. At the Open Class in September, world-renowned photographers and educators, such as, Zhong Jianming, Sian Bonnell, James Ramer, Cecilia Paredes, Hou Jun, and Glenna?Jennings, have given lectures to 1,500 audiences in Pingayo. At the festival, there were 3 lectures on photography ranging from photographic theory and skills to best edit from portfolios, 3 high-end forums on photography given by 42 photographers, artists and curators, and 3 nights of slide when 7 slideshows of different organizations and individuals were played with a total duration of about 6 hours. 
    In 2014, there are media reports on the festival by nearly 300 journalists from over 130 media, including more than 70 network media and 60 traditional media, such as Sina, NetEase, Shanxi Evening News, China Photo Press and People’s Photography. Meanwhile, the Art Committee of the PIP festival also used official website, MicroBlog and WeChat for publicity, and provided timely, comprehensive, and effective reports on the festival, which has received exhibitors’ acclaim. 
    The curtain of the14th PIP festival has fallen.
