菲利普·菲米斯:传统黑白人像(Philippe Vermès:Traditional Black and White Portraits)

作者简介:

菲利普·菲米斯,画家,毕业于巴黎国立美术学院。他的艺术天赋指引其走上摄影之路,其专长是使用4×5的木制相机拍摄黑白大画幅肖像。他的作品获得了柯达金奖,并在欧洲、北美和古巴的博物馆和画廊进行展出。他的作品《重建面容》已由欧洲摄影之家出版。

他的作品常被私人收藏家和一些收藏机构收藏,比如国家摄影大楼、巴黎、图片库、哈瓦那和古巴。

他在阿尔勒开创自己的工作间并担任阿尔勒国际摄影节的评审员。他教授摄影知识,目前正在研究杰出的摄影师们,同时致力于另一项目——即研究人物耳垂脸部和轮廓的颜色。

Artist Bio:

VERMES graduated from l’Ecole nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris as a painter. His artistic talents guided him towards photography where he specialized in black and white big format studio portraits taken with his 4X5 wooden camera. Kodak Gold Award winner, he has exhibited in museums and galleries in Europe, North America, and Cuba. The Maison européenne de la photographie has published Visages d’une construction.

His prints belong to private and public collections including the National House of Photography, Paris, Fototeca, Havana, Cuba.

He has done workshops and photography juries at Les Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles. He teaches photography and is currently working on a series of distinguished photographers along with another project in color of the subject’s ear lobe, face, and profile.

 


 

展览前言:

著名的人像摄影家菲利普·菲米斯在欧洲和美国工作,他使用4 × 5的大画幅木制相机和宝丽来55胶卷对人物进行细节拍摄,这种特写观察来自于摄影和绘画两方面的经验和传统。

受欧洲摄影之家的委托,菲米斯为参与著名摄影博物馆重建工程的工人、建设者以及其他员工拍摄肖像。菲米斯沿袭了肖像照一贯的传统,把拍摄对象的底片给他们,让他们自己保留,好让他们没有被剥夺肖像权之感,这个项目最后编成一本书,名为《重建面容》。

他的另一系列作品渴望的骑手也出版成书——《矫正角度:美国骑手及其自行车的肖像》。

作品呈现出的骑手、铬合金自行车及其曲线的风格,时而夸张,时而离谱,但底线是真实地展现他们的顽皮、敏感、自由。他的作品都基于这一底线。

近期,他的作品展于巴黎蒙马特44号的W画廊(参考菲利普·菲米斯的网站www.philippevermes.com这些作品与众不同作品特有的表现力把年龄性别和职业有机的融合在一起。根据摄影评论家A.D.柯尔曼的说法,像欧文·佩恩对巴布亚泥浆工一样,菲米斯也给予其拍摄对象同样崇高的敬意。菲米斯遵循罗伯特·弗兰克和丹尼·莱昂的传统。

马赛克肖像系列探索人类耳垂、脸和轮廓的独特性,探索人类个体与人类种群之间的共性与个性。这个特殊的肖像系列不仅具备菲米斯作品特有的动态古典主义特征,还极具创新性。

 

Project Introduction:

Philippe Vermès, a prominent photographer-portraitist working in Europe and the United States, has used his large format 4 X 5 wooden camera and Polaroid 55 film to take portraits rich in detail--close up observations that stem from two traditions one photographic, and the other painterly.

Commissioned by the Maison européenne de la photographie (la MEP) in Paris to take the portraits of the workmen, architects, staff involved in the renovation/reconstruction of the famous photographic museum, Vermès continued in the robust portrait tradition giving his subjects a proof and keeping the negative so that his sitters never left feeling deprived of their portrait! The outcome of this project was another book entitled “Visages d'une construction”.

Another portrait series WANTED: BIKERS has been edited in book form “Straightening out the Corners: Portraits of American Riders and their Bikes.

Vermès presents them with their chrome and curves and sometimes extravagant, sometimes outrageous styles, but the bottom line is his intention to show them off as they are:  playful, sensitive, freewheeling individuals.  His portraits are the result of this quest.

 They were shown recently in a major Parisian art gallery-Gallery W at 44 rue le Pic in Montmartre. (see Vermès' web site wwwphilippevermes.com) They're different: a mixture of age, sex, profession all bound together by their strength of character.  According to a photography critic AD Coleman, Vermès treats his subjects with the same serious respectful attention that Irving Penn devoted to Papuan mudmen".  Vermès follows in the tradition of Robert Frank, Dany Lyon.

The Mosaic portrait series explores the uniqueness of the human ear lobe, face, and profile. The individual connects to the universality and singularity of the human being. This particular series is an innovative addition to the dynamic classicism that characterizes Vermès’ photographic work.
